The yard of Hamms Hammett and Chrystie Riley at 3843 Treeline Dr. has been selected as the Oak Park Estates Neighborhood Association's "Yard of the Month" for August 2010.  Hamms and Chrystie will receive a $25.00 Calloway's Gift Certificate, courtesy of Calloway's Nursery, to acknowledge her yard care efforts and for helping to beautify our neighborhood.

OAK PARK ESTATES - YARD OF THE MONTH
Sponsored by Calloway's Nursery

The Yard-Of-The-Month (YOM) program has been established to recognize the efforts of residents within the neighborhood whether they are homeowners or tenants, who demonstrate a clear and consistent desire to maintain or improve their respective properties above normal expectations. The Beautification Committee wants to give you the recognition you deserve for creating a beautiful, well kept yard. This is a great way to improve the value of your home and make your neighborhood a better place to live.

The program begins in February, 2009 and will be sponsored by Calloway’s Nursery.

SELECTION PROCESS TIMELINE

• 25^TH day of month – all entries must be submitted via website form(www.opena.org) or email sent to any OPENA officer to be considered for that month’s “Yard of the Month”. Anything received after the 25^th, will be considered for the following month’s “Yard of the Month”.
• Last day of month – OPENA Officers will select a winning yard for that month’s “Yard of the Month”
• 1^st day of next month – “Yard of the Month” signage to be placed in winning yard
• 1^st day of next month – OPENA website to be updated with winner’s name, address and picture of the winning yard

GUIDELINES

• Yard of the Month awards will be awarded each month. A special Yard of the Month will be awarded for the best decorated yard at Christmas.
• Due to holiday timeline, those who want their yard judged for the Christmas contest must submit entry form by December 15th. Officers will select winner by December 20^th and a “special” holiday sign will be placed in the yard by December 21^st.
• Yards must be within Oak Park Estates neighborhood boundaries of Kiest Blvd to the north, Pentagon Pkwy to the south, Navajo Dr to the east and Rugged Dr to the west.
• Potential YOM winners are judged solely on the total exterior appearance of their property and front yard as viewed from the street.
• No property may win yard of the month more than twice in a calendar year(Jan – Dec). The special holiday award is exempt from this rule.
• Judging factors include the overall appearance, tidiness and neatness of the front of the property as evidenced by:

1.      Pruned, trimmed and shaped foliage

2.      Be willing to have photos of yourself and yard taken and published

3.      Well manicured yard, beautification, originality and creativity

4.      Lawns, borders and flower beds edged and defined

5.      It’s the most visually appealing in the area

 Winners will receive:

A specially designed sign, sponsored by Calloway’s Nursery, placed in their front yard until the announcement of the next month’s winner. Calloway’s will also award a gift certificate for the monthly winner in 2009.
